Dear [EMV FIELD]FIRSTNAME[EMV /FIELD]

Welcome to our first ever online health professional newsletter - a quarterly resource to help keep you up-to-date with the latest developments here at Slimming World. We're also delighted to announce the launch of our brand new health website – providing information on Slimming World’s approach and latest research on weight management.

Slimming World and the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) have formed a unique partnership to support pregnant women and breastfeeding mums in managing their weight during and after pregnancy. Slimming World is the only national weight management company to provide this specialist support to women though every stage of their pregnancy.  Weight management during pregnancy is not about weight loss. Pregnant and breastfeeding mums are encouraged to adopt a balanced, healthy diet to prevent excess weight gain during and after pregnancy and to give their child the best possible start in life. The partnership is a natural fit for both organisations as we have the health and wellbeing of women and babies close to our hearts.

Cathy Warwick, chief executive of the RCM, says of the new partnership: “Nothing could be more vital than the work of the RCM and Slimming World to improve the health of women and, through this, their babies. Their approach to weight management with pregnant women is sound, achieves positive results and helps to change the lives of many women.”

Helping 11-15 year olds make healthy changes

Rhys Payne - watch the video.

A study published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics has demonstrated how Slimming World’s Family Affair programme helps young people to make healthier food choices, get more active and become more sociable.

In the study of 96 Slimming World members aged 11 to 15, young people made positive changes to their behaviour, achieving significant reductions in weight towards a healthy BMI, without compromising growth in height.

Launched in 2006, the scheme, which focuses on healthy lifestyle changes rather than weight loss, entitles young people aged 11 to 15 to attend group free of charge with a paying parent or guardian, as long as they have permission from their GP or nurse.

Rhys Payne, 12, is one of the 14,000 young people who attend Slimming World each year. Watch the video above to hear his story of how he transformed his life and gained confidence with Slimming World in this exclusive interview with Lorraine Kelly and Dr Hilary on ITV.
