Top London editor relocates to head up Slimming World magazine

The UK’s number-one glossy magazine Slimming World has recruited top London editor Sara Ward to its ranks as the award-winning title looks to continue its impressive success on the newsstands.

Sara, who spent 14 years in London at best-selling magazines including That’s Life and Take a Break, has joined Derbyshire-based Slimming World magazine as editor.

Produced in-house at the headquarters of the UK’s leading weight-loss organisation Slimming World, the magazine has experienced unrivalled growth in recent years and now boasts a circulation of 616,841, making it the UK’s fourth most-actively purchased magazine.

The August/September issue will be the first produced under the editorship of Sara. Speaking of her new role, she says: “From the first time I picked up a copy of Slimming World magazine, I was blown away by the inspirational real-life stories, stunning photography, delicious recipes and unshakeable support within its pages. I soon discovered that the enthusiasm and commitment shown in the magazine is echoed throughout the entire company, which made my decision to take up this exciting new challenge a very easy one.

Slimming World magazine is a hugely successful title and my goal will be to keep that momentum going. I’m so excited to bring my commitment, experience and ideas to the role and really keen to hear from readers about what they’d like to see in future issues.

“Our covers always feature real-life slimmers and Rasha, who is on the front of this issue, has had an amazing weight-loss journey. It was a joy to attend her shoot – she’s such a lovely person inside and out – and as my first cover star she’ll always be a little bit special to me.”

Sara will work closely with Slimming World magazine’s incumbent editor Elise Wells, who has been promoted to editor-in-chief. Elise says: “During my nine years as editor, the editorial team and I have worked hard to create a gorgeous, glossy read that supports people on their weight-loss journey. I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve achieved – and I’m so excited to see what the future holds under Sara’s editorship. Her passion for real-life stories, the way she has embraced Slimming World’s values and her reputation as a bit of a foodie will all stand her in excellent stead. The quality of this latest issue is proof that she’s already off to a flying start!”

Slimming World magazine’s circulation has grown by more than a third in the past two years and it was recently named Customer Magazine of the Year 2016 at the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Awards. Slimming World magazine is sold at a discounted price to members in all 4,500 weekly Slimming World groups across the UK and Ireland, as well as being publicly available via the newsstand.

The magazine provides an additional layer of support and inspiration to the organisation’s group members and a digital edition is also available. The August/September issue went on sale on newsstands on Thursday, 14th July, priced at £2.75.

Notes to Editors

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 18,000 groups held weekly across the UK and Republic of Ireland via a network of 4,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques.

Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and a recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
