Senior manager appointments demonstrate commitment to growth

Slimming World, the UK’s leading weight loss organisation, has made a number of key appointments to support the rapid growth and development of the business.

The appointments of a new Head of Talent, Learning and Organisational Development, Head of Stock and Logistics and Editor of Slimming World magazine will enable Slimming World to continue to grow by delivering an exceptional service to its 900,000 members.

In the newly created role of Head of Talent, Learning and Organisational Development, Lyn Green will be responsible for creating and heading up a new HR and organisational development function at Slimming World, providing expertise across all aspects of organisational design, development, learning and talent management. Priorities include leading a programme to ensure that all team members have the opportunity to reach their full career potential within the organisation, to make Slimming World an exciting place to work and to continue to attract the highest calibre employees. Lyn comes to Slimming World after enjoying success in a similar role at Whirlpool Corporation (formerly Indesit UK Ltd).

In his role as Head of Stock and Logistics, Andy Neville will lead a stock team of 50 in providing a timely and efficient service to Slimming World’s 4,500 local self-employed Consultants across the UK and Ireland. Based in a recently built warehouse on the company’s Head Office site in Alfreton, Derbyshire, the busy team works hard to ensure that Consultants have the tools and resources to support and delight their members. With extensive knowledge and experience in supply chain management and worldwide outbound logistics at major companies including Jewson, Rapiscan Systems and Building Adhesives, Andy will look to improve efficiencies in warehouse activities, production, stock accuracy and control, to further improve Slimming World’s quality of service to its Consultants and members.

Sara Ward has been appointed to edit the award-winning Slimming World magazine following the recent promotion of Elise Wells to editor-in-chief. Sara’s appointment follows her success at best-selling consumer publications including Take a Break and That’s Life. Slimming World magazine, the fourth top-selling magazine in the UK, provides additional support to the organisation’s members with inspirational real life stories, delicious recipes and unshakeable support through motivational articles.

Jan Boxshall, who was herself recently promoted to Managing Director with incumbent MD Caryl Richards taking a more strategic CEO role, says: “We have experienced massive and consistent growth in recent years. Our success is based on a deep understanding of how to support those people who struggle with their weight through a combination of a healthy eating plan and an unparalleled support programme to help our members develop new habits and achieve their dream weight.

“Slimming World has always recognised that people are our biggest and best asset and that for a business to continue to improve, innovate and grow, the focus must be on people. These appointments will help us to further develop the potential of our exceptional team, improve the quality of our service to our franchisee Consultants and continue the success of the vital weight loss tool that is Slimming World magazine. They’ll also help ensure that we are well-placed to continue our growth in the UK and establish Slimming World as a truly global business, whose success is built on the delight of its members.”

Notes to Editors

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 18,000 groups held weekly across the UK and Republic of Ireland via a network of 4,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques.

Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and a recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
