It’s fair to say that 2021 hasn’t got off to the start any of us wanted, and that’s presented lots of challenges – including challenges for slimmers. Slimming World groups have had to temporarily close their doors and getting a Body Magic boost at a gym, leisure centre or community class is not currently an option.

The good news is that, together, we’ve found solutions to each of these problems – and we’ve been blown away by how our inspirational members have embraced these changes. Our group members are once again meeting online in their virtual groups, so that special Slimming World support can continue. We’re also loving the inventive ways that members are making the most of what food they have and how they’re creating new ways to get active at home.

Let’s take a look at how our members have been keeping up their weight loss motivation and staying in their slimming grooves through challenging times…

Flavour-packed food ideas

@emilyyalicia_sw turned to her spice rack to make this flavourful plate of chicken kebab skewers, served with garlic rice and salad. If you prefer a vegetarian alternative, chunky vegetables like peppers, red onion, courgette, aubergine and cherry tomatoes work well.

If you’re looking to use up a bag of couscous in your cupboard, it makes a great rice alternative and is another Slimming World Free Food. You’ll find lots of ideas in our couscous recipes post. Lou (@loupam_fodfit) served her tandoori chicken salad with plain couscous cooked in vegetable stock and garnished with dried coriander.

Like many of us, Emily (@emilywalters_journal) made the most of her extra time at home with some barbecue cooking. When the sunshine returns, I’ll be taking a leaf out of her book with a juicy lean steak (removing the fat makes steak a Free Food!), which I’ll pair with Slimming World chips and salad for a healthy, tasty, mood-lifting lunch! Emily says:

“Today has been a good day food wise 😊 Made good choices and feeling positive.”

My Slimming World Virtual Groups

The My Slimming World Virtual Groups have become amazing places of support, idea-sharing and inspiration. They give our members all the great benefits of a Slimming World group, while still keeping them safe at home – from practical tips to help you Food Optimise and stay fit, to that unbeatable emotional support that will help you to look at your goals and stay on the right track towards achieving them. Here’s what some of our members and Consultants think of their virtual groups…

Our Consultant Zoe (@swgoldenzoe) says:

“Feeling excited as today I get to see my members. It’s virtual group day. Still offering exactly the same support and delivering it straight into your living room… Cannot wait to find out what plans everyone has to help them in their weight loss mission this week 💗”

While Consultant Suzi (@init_forthe_longrun_sw) shows off her fantastic group set-up at home:

“Absolutely loved my Wednesday morning with my SW members… We had such a fab session – I gave out a 3st award 🙌 and we had lots of top tips to help us stay on track with our #healthyliving goals during this really challenging time ❤️💜💚 The physical doors 🚪 to our groups are temporarily closed but the virtual 💻 doors are open! Looking forward to four more SW virtual Slimming World sessions this week!”

Planning for success

Planning is an important part of staying on track, and Jessica (@mrsjessicamayhewsw) takes a moment with her food diary over a healthy breakfast.

Body Magic at home

@slimmingworldstudentstyle made the most of his garden space to do a spot of no-equipment-needed circuit training last summer. Brrrrrrrr-ing the exercise class indoors during colder weather with our at-home circuits class.

Joanna (@joanna_sw_xx) is one of many members who are giving online workouts a go. Joanna says:

“I’ve never really enjoyed working out and have always been far too self-conscious to go to a gym and even try! When they closed schools and I completed my first online ‘PE with Joe’ lesson with the children of key workers, I actually thought that maybe this is something I could do! Almost everyday since then I’ve completed a short 15-20 min workout at home. It was TOUGH, and I found myself swapping some of the harder exercises, making excuses that ‘I’m not fit enough to do that’. But with each day I’ve felt a little stronger and a little healthier. Today, for the first time, I pushed myself to complete a 30 min workout in full, without swapping any of the activities for something easier. And do you know what? I did it!!! So to all those people who think ‘I’m not fit enough, I’m too self conscious’, while you’re bored at home during this lockdown, it is your opportunity to prove yourself wrong and DO IT!”
