It also slows down how quickly food leaves the stomach, meaning we feel fuller for longer, and sends signals to the brain indicating that we\u2019re full. This, in turn, reduces our appetite.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why do I keep hearing about it?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The flurry of news stories about weight loss medications (including Wegovy and Mounjaro) may have something to do with it. You may hear other names like Ozempic, which is licensed to treat diabetes, not for weight loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Does natural GLP-1 have the same impact as the GLP-1 that is mimicked by the weight loss medications?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No, they have different effects. Natural GLP-1 is broken down quite quickly by an enzyme in the body that the weight loss drugs have been designed to withstand. The effects of natural GLP-1 are therefore more short-lived, mainly felt around mealtimes, whereas the weight loss medications can last days or weeks depending on which one is used and the dosage.
