{"id":7534,"date":"2024-10-17T16:31:36","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T15:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slimmingworld.wpenginepowered.com\/blog\/?p=7534"},"modified":"2025-03-12T12:09:13","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T12:09:13","slug":"weight-loss-during-menopause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slimmingworld.co.uk\/blog\/weight-loss-during-menopause\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI lost 8st with Slimming World during the menopause\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At Slimming World, we understand that many women worry about the effect the menopause could have on their weight loss \u2013 and we\u2019re here to offer advice and support to help you achieve and maintain your dream target weight, while managing your menopause symptoms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We surveyed 2,472 Slimming World members who were either going through the perimenopause or who had already experienced the menopause \u2013 here\u2019s what we found:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Around 90% of members who were currently going through perimenopause reported that they were experiencing symptoms. The five most common ones were feeling tired or lacking energy (51%), having difficulty concentrating (38%) and\/or sleeping (37%), memory problems (30%) and a loss of interest in sex (29%).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the study, 85% of women said that, in their experience, weight loss is more challenging during the perimenopause and\/or after the menopause.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than three-quarters (79%) of women reported that their body shape changed as a result of the perimenopause and\/or menopause.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An impressive 79% of those surveyed had successfully lost weight with Slimming World during the perimenopause or after the menopause.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slimmingworld.co.uk\/nearest-group-search\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"122\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slimmingworld.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GetRealSupport-SmallCTA_SlimmingWorldBlog2.jpg\" alt=\"get real support - small CTA\" class=\"wp-image-11411\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nicola&#8217;s story<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Slimming World member&nbsp;Nicola Summers (featured in our main image) lost 8st (51kgs) with Slimming World during the menopause.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slimmingworld.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Body-NicolaSummers_SlimmingWorldBlog.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10253\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Nicola says: \u201cMy weight has affected everything, including my relationships, my health and my career. When I found out that my blood pressure was sky-high, I knew that I needed to lose weight \u2013 but entering menopause and struggling with low moods made it feel even more difficult.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I went along to my first group meeting, any nerves I had beforehand quickly disappeared. The Consultant, Sophie, welcomed me with open arms, and everyone else was so friendly, too. Now, going to group is the highlight of my week!\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within a few weeks I\u2019d lost half a stone, and not long after that I got my 1st award. I\u2019d rediscovered cooking healthy meals and I never felt like I was going without \u2013 if I\u2019d been told to cut out carbs,&nbsp;I would\u2019ve found it really difficult to stick to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In less than two years, I lost 8st \u2013 and the best thing is that it\u2019s staying off for good! My health has transformed, and my blood pressure is back in the normal range. My fitness has improved so much, too, and I\u2019ve even tried water sports for the first time in my life!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided to go on HRT patches to help with my menopause symptoms \u2013 and while they did have an impact on my weight loss to begin with, I kept following the Slimming World plan and the weight started to come off again.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s my 50th birthday next year and I\u2019m so excited to celebrate. I was on medication for my blood pressure and, as well as being checked out for heart issues, I was advised that I was at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My doctor explained that if I lost weight, a lot of the menopause symptoms I was experiencing might improve. I joined Slimming World in October 2016, and lost 9lbs in that first week. I\u2019m sure my three Scottish terriers were glad I was getting fitter, too! Before I lost weight, I\u2019d take them on the quickest, shortest walks possible \u2013 now I love taking them on long strolls along the beach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, I\u2019ve lost a total of 9st and I weigh a healthy 11st 1lb. I still have the occasional hot flush, but my menopause symptoms are so much better and I have loads more energy.
