Slimming World - Weight and Health Now e-newsletter
New Member Pack   Hello [EMV FIELD]FIRSTNAME[EMV /FIELD]

As we reach the beginning of March experts might be predicting the coldest Easter on record, but Slimming World's (now award-winning!) Nutrition and Research team is really warming up for our symposium at ECO 2013.

We've had a fabulous few months and have some exciting plans coming up. Read all about them below.

Study shows flexibility is key to weight loss maintenance

A study of successful weight loss maintainers, conducted by Slimming World, published in the Open Obesity Journal, has shown that weight loss programmes need to be flexible to fit in with individual lifestyles. Allowing people to select the eating and activity-related changes that work best for them is key to long-term success. Download the study.

Slimming World at ECO 2013

World-renowned behaviour change expert Dr Alain Golay has been confirmed as one of the speakers at Slimming World’s ECO 2013 symposium. One of his previous presentations at the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) conference in 2012 is available to watch. And look out for the Slimming World ECO Special edition of Weight and Health Now, coming up in April, which will give further details of our symposium and the research we will be presenting.

Slimming World presents award as part of RCM partnership

Two Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Midwives have received the Slimming World-sponsored ‘Award for Initiatives in Improving Public Health and Reducing Inequalities’ at the Royal College of Midwives' annual awards ceremony.

Midwives Rebecca Beggan and Lesley Tones received the award for a ground-breaking perinatal mental health project they pioneered. Read more here.

Best practice poster award!

Slimming World’s Nutrition and Research team attended the Nutrition and Health Live conference and Expo and we are delighted to say that we won the Nutrition & Health Best Practice Poster Award 2012!

The poster demonstrated that referral to Slimming World is just as effective for people with high BMIs as for those who are moderately overweight and was presented by Slimming World’s Consultant Dietitian in Weight Management, Amanda Avery.

‘Slim for Good’ Campaign

This time of year is often when motivation levels begin to drop (as commitment to New Year’s resolutions fade). To help renew motivation and commitment, Slimming World is running a six week challenge for members between w/c 25th February and w/c 1st April. Members will pledge to reach a personally chosen target and, as an extra motivation-booster, they’ll be slimming to support a local good cause that’s close to their hearts. Find your nearest group if you’d like to get involved.

New charity partners announced

After a number of years supporting the NSPCC – (raising 1.8 million for the charity) Slimming World asked staff, group Consultants and members who they would like to see as the charity partner for 2013. Cancer Research UK and the Marie Keating Foundation in Ireland were chosen by an overwhelming majority, recognising the strong link between obesity and cancer. Slimming World will be carrying out a range of fundraising activities throughout the year, including giving a donation from all book sales.
