Trish takes the Golden crown winning Slimming World’s Employee of the Year 2019

Tricia Fowell, 33, from Nottingham is celebrating after winning the title of Slimming World’s Employee of the Year 2019.

Tricia, who lives in Sherwood works as a Senior Designer at Slimming World’s Alfreton head office, was presented with the award by the weight loss organisation’s founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE at the annual Slimming World Oscars ceremony.

She’s worked for the Derbyshire-based weight-loss organisation for the past nine years and works on the designs for a range of materials including new member packs, hi-fi food packaging, certificates, diaries and adverts for Slimming World magazine.

Every year, Slimming World’s Employee of the Year award is given to a member of staff who leads the way in inspiring colleagues with their flexibility, positivity, teamwork, quality of customer service, commitment, support of colleagues and managers, and overall quality of work. Each one of the organisation’s 16 departments – from Marketing and Events to Stock and Distribution – votes for their team’s Employee of the Year. Trish was voted top of her team by her colleagues and then, after being shortlisted from 16 department nominees to a final five, was selected as the overall winner by staff, managers and directors.

Trish started working at Slimming World in 2010 after hearing about a graphic design job opportunity through a friend. Since then she’s worked on major design projects including the re-branding of Slimming World’s hi-fi bars, creating a Christmas journal for Slimming World members who need extra support through the festive weeks of their weight-loss journey and working with the digital and magazine teams to create our very own Slimming World personality typeface and icon suite so to keep all aspects of the brand consistent.

My favourite thing about working at Slimming World has to be the people – there’s an incredible company culture and my team are real friends now.

Originally joining Slimming World as a Designer, Trish was promoted to Senior Designer in 2016. She says: “I have always been creative – even since being a kid – and I’m a real big-picture thinker. I thrive on creating new design concepts and thinking outside the box; this job gives me the freedom to do just that. Every day is different – I could be creating a Consultant Diary one day and a serious health professional booklet the next. I love that about my job”.

She loves travelling and spends her weekends and holidays touring in her camper with her dog and boyfriend. She says: “My favourite thing about working at Slimming World has to be the people – there’s an incredible company culture and my team are real friends now. Leaving a graphic designer job in London was a really difficult decision, but it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did and now I have absolutely no regrets.”

“I couldn’t believe it when my name was announced on stage. I could never have stood up and made a speech a couple of years ago but the experiences I’ve had here have given me so much more confidence and belief in myself.

“Slimming World has been my rock, my anchor and my home for the past nine years and I am truly grateful for all the opportunities and experiences this role has given me. I honestly feel like I could work here forever!”

Senior Creative Design Manager Chris Hall is Tricia’s manager and won the Employee of the Year title himself in 2014. He says: “We’re all really proud of Trish and it’s amazing to have a winner from the Design team again! Trish is so dedicated to her role and the amount of thought, flair and creativity she puts into her work is amazing. She is constantly finding new ways to present everything that we all love about the Slimming World brand – presenting our recipes, our members, our energy and our values in fresh and exciting ways as well as finding new and innovative ways of working.

“Trish is an incredibly helpful and approachable member of the team with such a positive attitude. It’s easy to see why her colleagues look up to her and nominated her for the award, and why she won the overall title too!”

Winning the title is even more special this year as in 2019 Slimming World is celebrating its 50th golden birthday year*.

Trish will be invited to join Margaret, directors and other high achievers from across the company at a dinner at The Ritz hotel later this year.

About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 19,000 weekly groups supporting 900,000 members across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Groups are run by a network of 5,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques. Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
