I enjoy food and don't feel one ounce of guilt

Kelsey-Beth Crossley lost 2st 11lbs* with her local Slimming World group in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

"I was chubby as a child, though I think it was just puppy fat. I lost it when I was 12 or 13, then the weight came creeping back on as I reached 18. I felt self-conscious about my weight all the time. That’s why Slimming World is so amazing – we’ve all been in the same boat and no one ever judges you.

"In the past I tried all sorts to just lose a few pounds but they all left me ravenous, so I’d soon stop and put the weight (and sometimes a bit more) back on. I did my research and when I found out that with Slimming World I could still eat all the foods I loved, I knew it was the plan for me. When I joined it was as if something finally clicked. For the first time, I accepted it would take time to lose weight and keep it off.

"I really enjoy going to my group. It’s so inspirational to share stories and meal ideas during IMAGE Therapy and although we have a laugh and take the mickey out of ourselves, I always know I can go in after a difficult week and get the help and motivation I need to get back on track and make the next week a better one.

"With the help of my friends in group I’ve learnt how to make my meals work for me. Before, I’d skip breakfast, then grab a chocolate bar or crisps. And when I got home after a long day, I’d order a takeaway because I couldn’t be bothered to cook. Now, I’ll have a Hi-fi bar and fruit for breakfast. I’ll choose lean meat and veg or a salad for lunch – and I’ll always ask for no oil or dressing. And I’ve learnt how to make healthy Slimming World meals in bulk and I have them on standby in the freezer, so no matter how late I get home, I’ve got no excuse to eat rubbish!

My mum has also joined Slimming World now and she’s always picking up tips and recipes from group too. If I’m lucky she’ll cook me of one my favourite takeaway-style dishes – like chicken chow mein or curry!

"The biggest change I’ve made is the way I think about food – I don’t just eat out of habit and I actually enjoy my meals more. Food Optimising isn’t difficult and it really works!”
