The lovely old adage ‘The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ has taken on a more serious truth of recent years. The facts are startling:
- In the UK we are in the midst of an epidemic of overweight and obesity and as a direct result we're seeing rising levels of heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, osteoarthritis and weight-related cancers.
- An average man today weighs 13 stone 1lb, that’s 19lbs more than he did in 1980
- Male overweight and obesity levels are now at their highest ever – 67% of adult men are either overweight or obese (in 1980 this figure was 39%)
- There is an added problem too. Men are far less likely than women to address the issue of being overweight and seek out help. Currently men are significantly under represented in weight loss programmes nationally, with less than 1 in 1,000 overweight men attending a slimming club.
The best way for men to lose weight
The great news is – compared to women, men are so easy to help! Men tend to lose weight faster than women, they're generally more focussed when they start a healthy eating plan, with less negative feelings than women about previous failed attempts. And they are extremely committed when they finally join a slimming programme.
Over the past 45 years Slimming World has studied men and their attitude to weight loss and some things haven’t changed. Like, what prompts men to do something about their weight?
Many report that it was a health scare that prompted the decision to slim. ‘The nurse measured my blood pressure and told me my children might not have a father in a few years time’.
Others tell us they couldn’t join in with their children’s activities – they were too embarrassed or too unfit to kick a ball around or go swimming with the kids.
Slimming World provides a practical solution to slimming. It offers plenty to eat – real food, filling food, in generous amounts – and that includes curry, fish and chips, bread and chocolate. Literally no food is banned.
It’s a fact! Men lose weight fantastically well with Food Optimising – and they love it! Don’t take our word for it – read their personal successes here.
