Slimming World bag twelve weighty medals at Mansfield 5 & 10k

Twelve runners who work at Slimming World head office in Derbyshire received a hero’s welcome back to work after they bagged a hoard of weighty medals at the Reach Mansfield 5k & 10k events on Sunday 17th September.

The terrific team was made up of individuals from various departments across the business, including Finance, Facilities, Stock and Distribution, IT, Member Services, and Food Co-ordination. Their training was boosted by taking part in fitness classes and gym and personal training sessions available to employees for free at Slimming World’s Alfreton head office.

It was great to be given the opportunity to represent the company along with friends from other head office teams, and to take my medal back into work on Monday morning to show everyone! I love how the whole office can come together to support each other and great causes!”

The Reach Mansfield 5k &10k event, which is now in its third year, was set up to raise money for local charity Reach Learning Disability, which supports people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire. Slimming World, now the UK’s biggest group-based weight management organisation, has been a silver sponsor of the event for the last two years and offered eleven places to its 300 head office employees, which were all snapped up within 24 hours.

Slimming World Cookbook Editor Olly Maxey, from Nottingham, completed the 5k distance, which was his very first running event. He says: ‘I’ve been running once a week and taken part in my local parkrun, but I’d never taken part in an official race before – so I was a little nervous! I really enjoyed the whole experience though, especially sprinting across the finish line into the market place, and I was delighted with my time of 23.38.

“It was great to be given the opportunity to represent the company along with friends from other head office teams, and to take my medal back into work on Monday morning to show everyone! I love how the whole office can come together to support each other and great causes - the head office collection bucket alone raised more than £100!”

Notes to Editors

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 18,000 groups held weekly across the UK and Republic of Ireland via a network of 4,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques.

Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and a recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
