We know the past few months have been filled with uncertainty, with many parts of the UK and Ireland living through tighter lockdown measures. And as the restrictions continue to ease and change, we want to reassure you that we’re carefully considering our own road map for getting members safely back to group. No matter what, we’re here for you.
Due to lockdown restrictions in the UK and Republic of Ireland the majority of our groups are running our Virtual + Venue service. You can find out more about our service here.
Is Slimming World open?
Yes, absolutely. We’re continuing to support our members to achieve their weight loss goals through our inspiring, motivating Venue + Virtual service or virtual weekly groups, depending on the guidance in your area. This means that, until our much-loved real-life groups are able to reopen, you can still get the same practical help and know-how, caring support and friendship you love so much.
Slimming World joint managing director Lisa Salmon says: “Given that being overweight is associated with a significant number of life-threatening illnesses and, of course, it also brings a higher risk of severe illness from Covid-19, we’ve been determined not to give up on our members and to ensure that they don’t put their weight losses on hold. And as lockdown begins to ease and we look towards the future, we know more people than ever will be looking for support to embrace the coming months feeling happier and healthier.”
Slimming World during lockdown
Governments are being understandably cautious with their timelines, and specific details for businesses like Slimming World haven’t been released yet. So we’re keeping our plans to return to in-person groups flexible until exact dates are confirmed nearer to the time. As always, the best person to let you know about how your local group is being held safely and in line with guidance is your local Slimming World Consultant.
Here’s what we know so far for Slimming World groups across the UK and Republic of Ireland:
England: With the government planning that non-essential retail can start to reopen from 12th April, we’re hopeful that Slimming World groups will be able to return to venues, offering our temporary, alternative Venue + Virtual service from 19th April.
From 17th May, we anticipate real-life groups will be able to open with changes in place (similar to those last summer) to keep everyone safe and reassured in line with Covid-19 guidance, such as shorter, smaller sessions.
Wales: On 19th February, First Minister Mark Drakeford said that non-essential retail may reopen earlier than in England and this will be part of a review on 12th March. We will update members regarding the possibility of offering the temporary, alternative Venue + Virtual service as soon as we have confirmation of when that might be.
Scotland: The continued easing of level 4 restrictions, with non-essential click and collect services reopening from 5th April, means that Slimming World groups will be able to return to venues, offering our temporary, alternative Venue + Virtual service from 12th April.
Northern Ireland: First Minister Arelene Foster has indicated that non-essential click and collect services can reopen in Northern Ireland from 12th April. Assuming that the R-rate continues to reduce, we’re hopeful Slimming World groups in Northern Ireland could also reopen, offering our temporary, alternative Venue + Virtual service from 12th April.
Republic of Ireland: While the package of measures sees restrictions starting to ease from the 12th April, the government is taking a very gradual, phased approach, with each stage ‘subject to the prevailing public health situation’.
Services – like our temporary Venue + Virtual groups – aren’t yet permitted to reopen during this phase of the roadmap. That means that your groups will have to continue running virtually for now.
From 4th May, services like non-essential retail and click and collect will be considered, and we hope that we can return to venues, offering our temporary, alternative Venue + Virtual service at that point, depending on the guidance.
