Are Slimming World groups open?

Yes, absolutely. Our groups are open and running safely across the UK and the Republic of Ireland

Is Slimming World open?

Yes, absolutely. Covid-safe, real-life Slimming World groups are open and we’re ready and waiting to help you achieve your weight loss dreams.

Whether you’re a member already or you’re thinking about joining, we want to reassure you that our number one priority is to keep you, your Consultant, your families and your weight loss success safe.

What to expect in our groups right now

As always, you’re sure of a warm welcome, friendly faces, tons of support and cast-iron reassurance that you’re in the right place to achieve your weight loss dreams.

While Covid-restrictions are in place, to help you feel confident about coming and staying to group, you’ll also see:

  • sneeze screens at Pay, Weigh and the shop
  • hand sanitiser throughout the group (something that many of you still have in place)
  • space between the seats to help you maintain a social distance during the group
  • reminders to wear your face mask. Slimming World members and Consultants are all required to wear face coverings during group (unless exempt), until restrictions ease.

Groups are running slightly differently in different countries because of the current guidelines. Here’s what to expect in groups where you are:

In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland – groups are running in their venues as normal, with all our Covid-safe measures in place. Find your nearest group here…

In Wales – slightly shorter, slightly smaller groups are running so we’re asking new members to call the Consultant in advance to find out about extra sessions times and whether they’re running a separate new member session for your very first week. Find your nearest group here…

In the Republic of Ireland – groups are meeting in real-life for members and Consultants who have their Covid-19 vaccine certificate. For members and Consultants who don’t, our temporary Venue + Virtual service has returned, where members have the opportunity to get weighed and briefly visit the shop before having the main part of the group – what we call IMAGE Therapy – virtually on Zoom, just until restrictions ease. Please call the Consultant to find out how their group’s running and any other details to keep you safe, sound and supported with your weight loss dreams. Find your nearest group here…

About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE in Derbyshire in 1969 and has become the UK and Ireland’s leading weight loss organisation with more people choosing to attend a Slimming World group each week than any other weight loss programme. We support hundreds of thousands of people, both in our groups and online, to lose weight and to adopt new habits to stay slim for life.

Over the years our founding principles haven’t changed:

Our unique programme is based on a powerfully motivating support system called IMAGE (Individual Motivation and Group Experience) Therapy. Underpinned by a deep understanding of the psychology of overweight people, and incorporating the most effective sustainable behaviour change techniques, IMAGE Therapy is designed to inspire and motivate slimmers to make positive changes and to develop new, healthier habits around food and activity.

Food Optimising is our healthy eating plan, based on the liberating concept of Free Food. We encourage our members to fill up on those foods that are naturally lower in energy density (calories per gram) and also highly satisfying while limiting foods that are highest in fat and sugar and are less satisfying, so they lose weight without ever feeling hungry or deprived and without having to weigh, measure or count everything they eat.

Our activity programme, Body Magic, encourages members to become more active, more often in ways that they enjoy, until regular physical activity becomes an intrinsic part of daily routine.

Above all, at the heart of everything we do, lies our passion for treating every member with genuine care, empathy and respect.

We’re proud to work with the NHS, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), The Royal College of Midwives and others to help shape the future of weight management in the UK and Ireland.
