Slimming World celebrates its experts at new HQ
Slimming World christened its brand new 75,000sq ft building extension with a special weight-management event for the company’s most successful managers across the UK and Ireland.
Alfreton-based Slimming World, the UK’s largest weight-management organisation, invited around 100 of its most successful Team Developers to an exclusive ‘Thank You’ day, held in the company’s brand new training and conference facilities.
Slimming World Team Developers run their own weight-loss groups, as well as supporting other Slimming World Consultants in their local area as part of the company’s mission to help members achieve their weight-loss dreams. The ‘Thank You’ event was organised to celebrate and reward attendees for their exceptional work, as well as to give them the opportunity to share top tips and best practice.
"Being recognised like this isn’t just a triumph for me but also for the members and Consultants in the Matlock and Peak District groups. They’re the ones who make each group the success it is, with their fabulous energy, the warm welcome they give to new members and the wonderful compassionate support they show to each other every week."
As part of the day the guests heard a motivational talk from speaker and best-selling author Michael Heppell. They also took part in workshops and enjoyed a healthy banquet made on-site in the new 465-seater Slimming World restaurant.
Anna Shepherd, who runs Slimming World groups in Bakewell and Darley Dale and manages seven fellow Consultants in Derbyshire, says: “It was a real honour to be invited to represent my amazing team. I was so excited to see the new head office extension as well – the new facilities are even more amazing than before, and I didn’t think that was possible! To have had the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other Team Developers from across the country and to hear from someone so motivational like Michael was an experience I won’t forget. I learnt so much from the day and there’s no doubt the ideas and shared experiences will enable me and my team to even better support members in the area.”
“Being recognised like this isn’t just a triumph for me but also for the members and Consultants in the Matlock and Peak District groups. They’re the ones who make each group the success it is, with their fabulous energy, the warm welcome they give to new members and the wonderful compassionate support they show to each other every week. That’s as well as their impressive weight losses while following Slimming World’s hunger-busting eating plan and getting more active, of course. Each week as members lose weight we see them growing in confidence, improving their health, becoming more active, trying out new foods and recipes, and finding the courage to take on challenges that they’ve always dreamed of. Members who arrive at group with their self-esteem at rock bottom start to hold their heads high and feel 10ft tall as they lose weight successfully and are encouraged and supported to make healthy changes to change their lives for the better.”
Slimming World was founded in 1969 by Margaret Miles-Bramwell, OBE FRSA, after she became frustrated at the restrictive diets and lack of caring, shared support available for people who wanted to lose weight. Now, 49 years later, the organisation remains true to the same principles, helping people to shed the misery of excess weight without judgement through a programme that’s empowering, liberating and enjoyable.
Slimming World Consultants and Team Developers receive in-depth at the Slimming World Academy, based in the new building. Training includes the role of diet and activity in weight management. Crucially, it also includes training in how to help members to lift the guilt and shame they may feel as a result of struggling with their weight and help them to form healthy lifestyle habits.

About Slimming World
Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 18,000 weekly groups supporting 900,000 members across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Groups are run by a network of 5,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques. Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
