Slimming World colleagues go the extra mile for Cancer Research UK

Summary

Employees at Slimming World, the UK’s leading weight management organisation based in Alfreton, Derbyshire, have celebrated another successful year of supporting charity partner, Cancer Research UK.

Through initiatives such as the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw and support of the charity’s Race for Life event series, Slimming World members, Consultants and head office colleagues have raised more than £3.4million in total.

Staff at the Alfreton-based headquarters filled more than 2,000 purple bags with pre-loved clothing, accessories and shoes as part of the 2026 Big Slimming World Clothes Throw. The fundraiser encourages members to donate good-quality clothes they've slimmed out of, and are confident they'll never need again, which are then sold in Cancer Research UK shops across the country.

Jordan Marvell, who works as a support technician in the Technology team, was crowned Head Office Employee of The Year 2025 after being nominated by his colleagues who described him as passionate and dedicated.

Jordan, 25, who lives with his wife Georgia, has worked at Slimming World for seven years. He says: “The Clothes Throw really sees head office colleagues come together in support of a great cause. It brightens my day when the purple bags pile up in the warehouse – as well as raising money for Cancer Research UK, knowing the contents of each bag is getting a new life is fantastic.”

Alongside the Clothes Throw, staff also celebrated another successful year of supporting Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. Sponsoring the event series reflects Slimming World’s  commitment to encouraging members to discover enjoyable ways to move more and develop healthy physical activity habits that last, as part of its active lifestyle programme.

During the summer, members put their positive lifestyle changes into action by taking part in Race for Life events across the UK.  Together with Slimming World Consultants and staff, they raised over £723,900 for life-saving research, while also achieving their own personal activity goals.

Bethany Hayes, Senior Marketing Co-Ordinator at Slimming World, says: “Cancer Research UK holds a special place in the hearts of many of our colleagues, members and Consultants, and we’re proud to support the charity’s vital work.

“Last year we announced a major milestone, having raised £30million for Cancer Research UK since 2013. It’s incredible to see – year after year – how the organisation unites to support our initiatives, raising as much money as possible. Through our partnership, we aim to encourage healthy habits and highlight that maintaining a healthy weight and moving more can improve people’s health and help reduce the risk of developing at least 13 types of cancer.”
