Slimming World HQ get their thinking hats on for ‘Learning at Work Week 2019’

Employees at Slimming World head office have been celebrating ‘Learning at Work Week’, as part of a campaign organised by the charity Campaign for Learning.

Alfreton-based company Slimming World, which is the UK’s leading weight-loss organisation, put together its own workshops throughout the week to help staff members understand different areas of the business.

Employees could attend up to 17 voluntary workshops for free as part of their working day, all of which were delivered from various departments including Food and Publications, Slimming World Magazine and Public Relations.

Teams across the business create, manage and distribute materials to support Slimming World’s 900,000 members and 5,500 self-employed Consultants who are trained on-site at the Slimming World Academy.

Hair and Beauty at Slimming World, the salon based at Slimming World’s head office and open to the public, also ran their own hair and make-up tutorials for anyone wanting to brush up on their styling skills.

Slimming World’s HR & Training Support Specialist Warren Cox, who organised the week’s events says: “This is our third year supporting the campaign and it’s been another successful turnout. It was a great opportunity for our staff members to get involved and all the sessions were fully booked!

“It was great to see employees from different parts of the business come together and engage and interact in the workshops. Our head office teams work so hard each day to support our network of Consultants so it’s important they can have some fun and the opportunity to learn from each other too. Everyone absolutely loved taking part in the sessions and we hope they came away with a new skill and feeling motivated to work towards developing their future at Slimming World.”

About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969 and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary. There are now more than 19,000 weekly groups supporting 900,000 members across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Groups are run by a network of 5,500 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques. Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating, encouraging and empowering members to make changes in a supportive, warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
