UK’s leading weight-loss experts come together in Derbyshire

Around 100 of the UK’s most-successful slimming Consultants came together to share their expertise when Derbyshire-based Slimming World invited them to an exclusive event held at the company’s new training and conference facilities.

The Gold and Pearl Day 2018, which was themed around ‘believing and achieving’, recognised the self-employed franchisees for the outstanding work they do in always going the extra mile to support their members to achieve their dream weight, and celebrated the exceptional service they consistently provide.

Of 5,000 Slimming World Consultants based across the UK and Ireland, all of whom have completed a first-class training programme at the Slimming World Academy at Slimming World’s Alfreton head office, the 100 that attended Gold and Pearl Day were in the top-performing 2%.

As part of the day, all attendees were invited to share their experiences and learnings from running their award-winning groups in order to inspire each other to continue to ensure fantastic weight losses and members’ success. They also heard from motivational speaker and best-selling author Michael Heppell, as well as the company’s senior directors about the organisation’s key developments and plans for next year, when Slimming World celebrates its 50th birthday year.

Guests were treated to a healthy lunch in the 465-seater Slimming World restaurant, which serves healthy meals based around Slimming World’s Food Optimising healthy eating plan.

Award-winning Consultant Fiona Gavin, who lives in Derby and runs groups in Mackworth and Jordanthorpe, says: “It was an absolute honour to attend the event at Slimming World HQ and sit in a room with so many other successful, inspiring Consultants to learn from. Achieving the Gold Award felt incredible and to be treated to a day like Gold and Pearl Day was very very special – I left beaming with pride.

“I’ve been a Consultant for six years now. I’m a self-employed franchisee and still the generosity of the company regularly blows me away. I go in to my groups each week to support members knowing I have such a strong and supportive network at head office who make my job a dream. I love seeing the company grow and develop – from the incredible new head office extension, to the innovative research into health and nutrition, to the ever-amazing hunger-busting eating plan which allows members in Derbyshire and across the rest of the UK to love what they eat and still lose weight each week.”

About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 16,000 weekly groups supporting 900,000 members across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Groups are run by a network of 5,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques. Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
