Slimming World continues its commitment to the environment with 100th hybrid car

Slimming World has taken delivery of its 100th fleet car from Lexus Derby. The partnership between Lexus and Slimming World demonstrates the Derbyshire-based weight loss organisation’s commitment to ensuring that its company vehicle fleet is environmentally friendly.

Slimming World has long been an advocate of hybrid power, having established the nation’s first all-hybrid fleet more than a decade ago. At the time it was the largest exclusive fleet agreement secured by Lexus too, and three years later it still remains one of the vehicle company’s largest fleet.

Slimming World’s current 99 cars are mostly used by the organisation’s District and Field Managers who support 4,500 Consultants running 16,000 groups across the UK and Ireland, and cover 16,000 business miles each every year.

Paul James, Facilities and Fleet Manager at Slimming World, says: “We have always been a forward-thinking organisation and we’re extremely proud of the fact that we were the first company in the UK to have an all-hybrid fleet back in 2014. Working with Lexus has been a pleasure ever since and we’re delighted to now have 100 hybrid cars.

“Most of our managers are women and they are mainly visiting Slimming World groups in the evening, so it’s vitally important to us that they have a safe and reliable choice of car. Our partnership with Lexus enables us to provide them with this, as well as supporting our commitment to being environmentally responsible. And, just as importantly to their drivers, they look good too!”

“Lexus has a big Derby operation, which is crucial to us. We’re committed to sticking to our roots and working with and supporting local businesses. This investment is good for the success of both of our businesses in the area.”

Slimming World has helped millions of men and women achieve their dream weight since it was founded in 1969 by Margaret Miles-Bramwell, from Mansfield Woodhouse. The organisation now has 900,000 members across the UK and Ireland and 350 staff based at its Alfreton head office.

Ewan Shepherd, Director of Lexus in the UK, said; “It is inspiring to see the changes that Slimming World can make to the lives of its customers. It is clear from its decision to select a range of Lexus hybrid vehicles for all of its company vehicles that it is also seeking to change lives by protecting the environment. We have built a strong business relationship with Slimming World throughout the years, with the great support of our Lexus Centre in Derby. We look forward to continuing this successful association in the future.”

Notes to Editors

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. There are now more than 18,000 groups held weekly across the UK and Republic of Ireland via a network of 4,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants, who receive specific training in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as sophisticated behaviour-change techniques.

Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of satiety and energy density. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. The principles behind Slimming World’s philosophy are based on a deep understanding of the challenges faced by overweight people and a recognition that those who struggle with weight carry a double burden, the weight itself and a burden of guilt and shame about their weight. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating behaviour change in a warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS.
