Small changes to Slimming World's Food Optimising healthy eating plan this Autumn

Slimming World has added three new ingredients to its extensive Free Food list. Tempeh (a high-fibre plant-based protein), nori sheets (used in sushi making) and ready-made (no added sugar or wine) mustard will now join more than 350 foods, products and store cupboard staples that can be enjoyed freely – without weighing, counting or measuring – on Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan.

Registered nutritionist Emily Young explains: “We regularly review our plan and the nation’s eating habits, as well as food trends, to ensure Food Optimising remains the most flexible and liberating weight loss plan, and one that works for real people and their lifestyles. These new additions to our Free Food list contain important nutrients, such as fibre and iodine, and will help our members to enjoy delicious healthy recipes, such as homemade sushi.

“Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan is based on the science of energy density (the calories per gram in food), of satiety (how filling a food is) and how easy a food is to overeat. So, any food in our Free Food list is carefully chosen for being nutritious, low in energy density, highly satisfying or having a low propensity to be overeaten. We encourage members to focus on Free Foods first, meaning they eat a satisfying amount of delicious food for fewer calories. It’s a simple way to cut calories without counting them and lose weight in a sustainable way.”

These new Free Foods will show as Free on Slimming World’s website and app from August and will be updated in its printed member books from January 2026.
