Slimming World is an Inspiring Workplace

Summary

Slimming World has been named as one of the most inspiring workplaces in the UK and Ireland at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The UK and Ireland’s leading weight management organisation, which has its 500-strong headquarters in Alfreton, Derbyshire – just a short distance from where its very first weight loss group was held nearly 55 years ago – was a winner at the 2024 Inspiring Workplaces Awards.

It was the only weight loss brand recognised within the top 50 organisations. The workplaces were judged on a range of criteria, including culture and purpose, leadership, inclusion and employee experience.

The judges’ notes said: “This is clearly an organisation with a clear purpose and heritage that is lived throughout the business.”

We know our people are our very greatest asset and we trust, believe and invest in them.

Lisa Dobbs, Director of Support Services at Slimming World, collected the award with a number of colleagues at a Gala Dinner at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. She said: “It might sound immodest but it’s no surprise to us to be named as one of the UK and Ireland’s most inspiring workplaces – because we know Slimming World is a brilliant place to work!

Slimming World has always invested in people's development and its success has been built on the loyalty and commitment of staff, many of whom have worked for the company for most of their working lives.

“We know our people are our very greatest asset and we trust, believe and invest in them. We enjoy a range of benefits at our head office all aimed at helping us to enjoy a happy and healthy working life, from delicious, healthy meals at subsidised prices in our top-quality restaurant to an on-site gym and fitness classes, a healthcare plan and an option of 12-weeks’ free Slimming World membership each year.

“We pride ourselves on having a caring, performance-orientated culture – we’re all motivated to do a great job and provide excellent service to our 3,500 Consultants and 700,000 members, and we have fun doing it too!”

Matt Manners, Founder of The Inspiring Workplaces Group, said: “As the world seems to be facing more widespread and serious challenges, it is more vital than ever for organisations (big and small) to put their people first. Fostering environments and cultures their people both believe in and want to belong to.”

About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE in Derbyshire in 1969 and has become the UK and Ireland’s leading weight loss organisation with more people choosing to attend a Slimming World group each week than any other weight loss programme. We support hundreds of thousands of people, both in our groups and online, to lose weight and to adopt new habits to stay slim for life.

Over the years our founding principles haven’t changed:
· Our unique programme is based on a powerfully motivating support system called IMAGE (Individual Motivation and Group Experience) Therapy. Underpinned by a deep understanding of the psychology of people living with overweight and obesity, and incorporating the most effective sustainable behaviour change techniques, IMAGE Therapy is designed to inspire and motivate slimmers to make positive mindset changes and to develop new, healthier habits around food and activity.
· Food Optimising is our healthy eating plan, based on the liberating concept of Free Food. We encourage members to fill up on those foods that are naturally lower in energy density (calories per gram) and also highly satisfying while limiting foods that are highest in fat and sugar and are less satisfying, so they lose weight without ever feeling hungry or deprived and without having to weigh, measure or count everything they eat.
· Our physical activity support programme, Body Magic helps members to overcome any barriers around exercise. Members choose when to start and they set the pace, finding activities they genuinely enjoy, until regular physical activity becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine.

At the heart of everything we do lies our passion for treating every member with genuine care, empathy and respect.

We’re proud to work with the NHS, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), The Royal College of Midwives, Diabetes UK and others to help shape the future of weight management in the UK and Ireland.
