Get walking (briskly) with Active 10

You don’t have to wear a sports kit or start an expensive fitness programme to get the benefits of a more active lifestyle – brisk walking counts, too. Walking briskly for just 10 minutes can help to protect and improve your health.

Active 10

Whether it’s walking to meet a friend, stepping out of the office at lunchtime, walking around your local shopping centre or taking the dog to the park, there are lots of ways you can fit 10 minutes of walking into your day.

Brisk walking brings amazing health benefits and – along with Food Optimising – it’ll help you maintain a healthy weight, too.

Our activity programme, Body Magic, helps our members take small steps towards a more active lifestyle. Anything goes as long as it gets your blood pumping faster and your heart beating quicker.

Starting slowly and building up gradually is key, which is why walking briskly and regularly is one of the best ways to get fit. As well as bringing all the benefits of more vigorous activity, it’s also great because you can do it anywhere and it won’t cost you a penny!

Grandparents Mark and Amanda Gibbon together have lost 10st 13lbs and added decades to their lives after overhauling their eating habits and taking up walking. Read their story here.

Free Active 10 app

To help you track your walking pace, Public Health England has created a free app, Active 10 (available for Apple and Android phones), that’ll show how much brisk walking you’re doing and how you can do more. It's easy to use and helps you set your goals for the day, as well as providing helpful tips.
