Lose it like Liz
How trainee midwife Liz Evans from Liverpool turned the tide on her weight gain to lose an amazing five stones*.
“When I started high school, I stopped doing ballet and going swimming and I’d spend all my pocket money in the vending machines. Over the years I’ve tried everything to lose weight including Atkins, Dukan and the Cabbage Soup diet. I’d lose a stone or two but then pile it all back on when I came off a diet, which I inevitably did because they were too restrictive to keep up.”
“Being overweight took its toll on my health. As a student midwife I’d be exhausted after a shift, suffering with excruciating aches and pains. I also suffered with high blood pressure, heart palpitations, bad skin and insomnia.
“I joined Slimming World in January 2012 to help me lose weight for my summer wedding. When I heard about Food Optimising it seemed too good to be true – I couldn’t believe I could eat so much and lose weight, but I lost 8lb in my first week. It’s great because it’s not like a diet, it fits perfectly around my busy schedule which is essential because I work 60 hours a week and I can still go out with my husband and my friends too.”
“I swapped junk food for hearty meals like steak and chips, roast dinners and fish and chips. While slimming I’ve been on holidays, hen-dos, nights out and I enjoyed my wedding – nothing could stop me from reaching my target! My husband’s even lost 3½st by enjoying the same meals and we’ve took up jogging too, starting by running for just a few minutes and building up gradually.
“Now I’m slim, my complexion and overall health has improved. Work is now much easier and I don’t feel like a hypocrite when I’m talking to mums-to-be about healthy eating and nutrition. And I love being able to go into a shop and pick up something in a size 8 or 10 and know it’ll fit – I can wear fashionable outfits and share clothes with my friends now.
“When we went on honeymoon, we weighed our cases and they were 32kg. I couldn’t even pick them up but before I lost weight I was carrying around that weight every day – it’s hard to believe. I’ve been at my target weight for 2 years now and I know I’ll never go back to the old Liz.”
