Slim and smiling
Nadine Douglas, from Warrington, Cheshire, lost a fab 1st 13½lb* in four months enjoying her favourite spicy foods. She shares her story here…
‘I started gaining weight after having our daughter Erin-Paige in May last year. At first I wasn’t too concerned – I’d reassure myself, “You’ve just had a baby, it’s fine!” The problem was I was eating junk food to keep my energy levels up – the more I ate, the more weight I gained and it started to get me down. With our wedding planned for December this year, I knew I needed to stop, especially after seeing photos of myself on our first family holiday together last September. I vowed I wouldn’t walk down the aisle unless I got myself back in shape.
My friend Caroline had joined Slimming World and when I came back from holiday I went with her to group. I was over the moon when I lost 9lb in the first two weeks on Extra Easy – and the weight kept coming off in the following months, a couple of pounds at a time.
I come from a Caribbean background (my grandparents and my father were born in Jamaica) and I like my food well-seasoned, so I was worried I might find some Slimming World recipes a bit bland – I was wrong! I couldn’t believe how good the meals tasted. It all fitted perfectly with my cooking style, especially because herbs, spices and seasonings are Free, so I can use them however, whenever and as liberally as I like!
I promised myself I wouldn’t buy my wedding dress until I got to target, and now I’m there! I can’t wait to walk down the aisle in a beautiful size-10 dress. I’m so grateful to my fiancé Paul, my Consultant Kerrie, Caroline and my fellow group members for their support – I couldn’t have done it without them!’
